The 4-C's of Diamonds: Carat, Cut, Clarity and Color.
CARAT - Perhaps your first decision is to evaluate the general size of the diamond you want. Carat is a measure of "the weight of a diamond." Weight naturally relates to diameter of course - as larger sized stones increase total Carat Weight. Don't be afraid to size up.
At Tulsa Lab Diamonds we stock in the USA only the more popular sizes and shapes and always the highest quality stones. We stock in our Tulsa, Oklahoma warehouse, 1ct+, 2ct, 3ct. and 4ct. diamonds which meet or exceed only the highest grades. Each diamond is certified and all stones are laser engraved with their Certification Certificate Number.
Let talk about size, because as we know "size does matter." Diamonds of the same carat weight do not necessarily appear to be the same size. This is due to the shape and cut of the stone.
Buying through Tulsa Lab Diamonds offers an incredible distinct advantage.
At Tulsa Lab Diamonds you can now buy a much larger (and better) diamond than you ever dreamed possible for far less money than a mined diamond.
Would you buy an exquisite lab created diamond at "one-fifth" the price of an equivalent natural diamond?
...How about if it cost even less?
Of course you would - all things being equal, money does matter - especially when your chosen lab diamond is atomically equal (or even superior) to a similar mined diamond.
You can now own the diamond of your dreams at Tulsa Lab Diamonds.
Ready to pick your size stone?
Consider the Diameter and Carat Weight in the reference chart below. It will give you a good idea of the relative size in millimeters you can expect for each relative diamond weight as measured in Carats. Brilliant Diamonds do vary some do to the overall depth and cut of the stone.
(For reference - A Carat is a unit of mass, equal to 200 milligrams.)
CUT: Proportions (Shape, Dimensions and Cut Angles), Polish (final polishing), and Symmetry (left-right):
Perhaps the most important aspects that control the brilliance of a diamond (in addition to color and clarity) are Proportions, Polish, and Symmetry.
Cut Ratings are determined and assigned by the selected Certification Agency (GIA or IGI). The assigned rating means your diamond meets or exceeds the stringent criteria for that particular rating. At Tulsa Lab Diamonds we only stock diamonds which meet or exceed the highest ratings or grades - Super Ideal, Ideal, or Excellent depending on the cut rating category. These diamonds exhibit the highest light reflective properties.
How do we know this?
We only stock superior cut stones with "Excellent" rated Symmetry, Polish and Proportions.
We specify each diamond for compliance to our higher diamond quality standards which are superior to most retail outlets offering lesser grades.
Once a diamond is received, we evaluate and test each diamond for its "light reflective properties" and symmetry using various lab scopes. Our tests include the Ideal Scope, Hearts and Arrows Scope, and the Aset Scope. Each lab scope shows the ability of the diamond to reflect light and can show plainly if any significant "light leakage" is present in the diamond - meaning light which passes through the diamond. All diamonds have some form of light leakage but we want to significantly limit light leakage to show off a diamonds maximum brilliance. (For a technically minded buyer, below on this page are various representative images from these types of lab scopes.)
We compare the respective lab certification to the stone itself and verify the certification number is "laser engraved" on the stone along what is called the "Girdle" - or outermost rim.
We only buy from quality and reputable sources. Our sources have proven over time they deliver the right quality diamonds that meet our stringent diamond specifications.
This is why you can trust Tulsa Lab Diamonds
We only stock "Excellent" rated diamonds.
Clarity: Clarity is essential to achieve the maximum light return and brilliance from a round brilliant stone or from any other shaped diamond. We stock only VVS2, VVS1 and IF stones...Period. Our clarity standard is far higher quality than the typical "retail jewelry store bought diamonds" - that feature lower grades - say VS1 or VS2 diamonds.
For your reference, our standards are the top three (3) clarity ratings possible - as shown on the left hand side of the chart image below. Any diamond defects, however minute, could only be visible with a 10x (or even a 20x) powered loupe. By standard, they and not visible to the naked eye - even close up.
You will be proud to show off your diamond...and smile knowing you purchased through Tulsa Lab Diamonds at a great price.
Color - Color is an important criteria for any diamond purchase.
Our diamonds meet the highest Near Colorless rating of G, or Colorless ratings of F, E, or D. Naturally, prices rise as the color rating and other specifications increase. Because of our high color standard, when mounted your diamond will appear "bright white."
The chart below gives you an indication of the ratings scale for diamond color. The left 4 ratings are our standard - D, E, F and G. G is a great color and offers the best value in terms of color.
Tulsa Lab Diamonds is proud to offer you a superior diamond with great cut, polish, color, symmetry, and clarity. These diamonds exhibit higher light reflective properties and scintillation which is a key metric for any diamond.

Scope Images: Earlier, we promised to show some representative lab scope images that help us determine if a particular stone offers "superior brilliance" (light reflection) and "scintillation" (flashes of color as the stone changes angle through natural hand movement in normal lighting).
The image on the left is a nice diamond with good symmetry as viewed through an "Ideal Scope." However the smaller white triangles show light leakage. This stone would be rejected by Tulsa Lab Diamonds.
On the right is an image of a different quality diamond as seen through what is affectionately called a "Hearts and Arrows Scope." Here the hearts are well proportioned and the arrows are well defined and sharp.
Below left is the ideal scope image we seek and right, the hearts and arrows image we seek. (Image from IGL)
Let's look below at an Ideal Scope image of a diamond acceptable to Tulsa Lab Diamonds. It shows very, very, small light leakage (white or light areas). This diamond will be a great diamond in a ring setting.
Scintillation - We bring the fire in your diamond!
Scintillation: Above is a quality diamond - showing off its "scintillation" - flashes of color seen by a viewer when the diamond moves under various full spectrum light sources - such as the sun, white incandescent, or even a florescent light.
Diamonds collect light from all directions. It's what they do with that light that matters. A mirror reflects, a window transmits. We seek maximum light return to the top facets of the diamond.
It's "the sparkle" in every Tulsa Lab Diamond.
No More Dull Diamonds:
If you've ever seen "a dull diamond" on someone's hand, you know that for some reason the diamond appears inferior. A diamond's brilliance and scintillation is sub-optimum from a number of reasons including; the stone is cloudy, it's full of inclusions, of poor color, or poorly cut, or simply the stone is very dirty. It could also contain "feathers" that prevent light from moving through the diamond correctly.
Your Tulsa Lab Diamond will not have major defects. We only stock high quality diamonds.
Our diamonds present highly desired brilliance and scintillation, from very low light conditions to bright daylight conditions.
Scintillation - We bring the fire to your diamond!
A 4+ carat diamond in a simple 6 prong white gold setting. Note the color and the fire. We believe in customer satisfaction.
